Film Developing Tools
Choose a Changing Bag or Tent for Loading Film
The usable space inside a changing bag has to fit your hands, the film and the equipment you will handle by touch. Start with the longest motion you need to make, such as pulling the dark slide from a sheet holder.
Lay out the largest setup
Place the tank, reels and any tools on a clean table. Leave room to move the lid aside and handle the cassette. Compare that working area with the bag’s listed dimensions and check where your wrists meet the cuffs.
Choose flat fabric or a frame
A flat bag folds away easily for a roll-film kit. A framed tent gives your hands more vertical room while you handle sheet holders or a taller tank. Check the open dimensions and how much space you need to assemble the frame.
Rehearse the order before you close the bag
Place the opener, reel and tank parts where you can identify them by feel. Practice with scrap film before an important roll. Check the condition of the seams, zipper and cuffs and follow the bag maker’s closure instructions.
