Choosing roll-film developing tanks

Count rolls at the intended width

The tank body and the installed reel settings determine how many rolls fit. A two-reel tank can hold fewer 120 rolls than 35mm rolls. Read the exact package list so you can tell how many reels you will actually receive.

Match how you will agitate

For inversion, look for an explicit seal and instructions for turning the tank over. Upright-only tanks can use a different agitation method. Confirm the working volume and light-trap assembly for the exact tank.

Department questions

Can I invert any daylight tank?

Check the model instructions for inversion. Some tanks use upright agitation and have caps that do not seal upside down.

Do all reels in a multi-format tank come in the box?

Read the exact inventory and distinguish the supplied reels from optional sheet or narrow-format inserts.

Which fill amount should I follow?

Use the tank maker’s value for your reel count, film width and agitation method.
