Film Developing Tools
Choose a Film Developing Tank for 35mm, 120 or Sheet Film
Write down the film widths you shoot and the number you expect to process together. Choose a tank body for that batch and check the supplied reels, center column and caps before you order.
Read the tank and reel specifications separately
An adjustable reel may accept several widths while the tank takes fewer rolls in its wider setting. The Paterson PTP115, for example, takes two 35mm rolls or one 120 or 220 roll. Count the reels included with the exact offer and check whether you need another reel for your planned batch.
Decide how you will agitate
For inversion, the instructions should explicitly support turning over the closed tank. For rotary processing, check how the tank attaches to the drive or sits on the rollers. Follow the working volume for that tank, reel count and agitation method.
Plan for sheet film separately
A 4×5 insert holds flat sheets by their edges. Match its model, sheet count and clearance with the tank family. Before processing a useful negative, practice sliding scrap film into the holder and securing the light trap.
