Choose Film Drying Clips and Negative Sleeves

Measure how much space the longest wet strip needs when it hangs from a clip. Then choose the sleeves around the way you cut that film and the binder or box you already own.

Choose clips for the drying space

Check the hook, clip width and whether the set includes a weight for the bottom. A rack with movable clips helps separate several strips. Allow space below the full strip and choose a contact point on the end of the film.

Compare a wiper with your film-handling routine

If you use a wiper, follow the film and tool maker’s care instructions. Check the contact surfaces for debris or wear before putting them against the film. A replaceable blade can be useful if you dry film often.

Measure the strip and the outside of the page

The channel layout determines whether the cut strip fits. The outside page and its punched holes determine whether the page fits the binder. Record both dimensions before selecting a pack.

Guide questions

What does a 120 sleeve hold?

The answer depends on the page design and the frame size. Compare the channel length and the number of strips with a representative negative.

What is a weighted clip for?

It hangs at the bottom of the strip to help keep it straight while drying. Check what the pack includes before counting on a complete pair.

Can I fit 4×5 pages in a binder I already own?

Measure the page and compare the hole layout. Some pages require an oversized binder.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. The Paterson clip pair holds one strip. Use the multi-clip JJC rack when you need separate places to hang multiple strips in the same space.

  2. The Print File Ultima page and the eTone 120 page arrange strips differently. Measure the cut strip and check the binder before choosing the layout.
